Moral rehabilitation is a vital component of the correctional process. Inmates are primarily provided with moral and educational instruction, supplemented by recreational and cultural activities. The focus is on character development, enhancement of life knowledge and behavioral guidance, with the goal of transforming disposition and preparing inmates to adapt to social life after release. These efforts are reinforced through progressive treatment measures, sentence reduction and parole, to encourage repentance and personal improvement. The key ongoing measures for rehabilitation are summarized as follows:
- Moral Instruction
Based on the inmate’s offense, sentence length, religious beliefs and individual characteristics, various forms of instruction are provided, including individual, group, category-specific, religious education and volunteer counseling. These are designed to awaken conscience, purify the mind and achieve subtle and lasting influence.
- Education
General education, life education and legal education are provided to inmates, along with scheduled legal literacy and health education campaigns. In addition, tailored programs such as psychological adjustment groups, personal development groups and pre-release preparation groups are arranged to meet the needs of different inmate types. These aim to strengthen educational outcomes and foster motivation for self-change and personal growth. Talent development classes, reading clubs and various literary and arts competitions are also organized to cultivate cultural appreciation, purify the spirit and support successful reintegration into society after release.
