The policy of "inmates engaged in self-directed work outside prison" aims to allow eligible inmates to travel independently between their workplace and place of incarceration without requiring prison staff to accompany or supervise them.
For inmates, this program helps develop personal self-discipline and enables early reintegration into the workforce and normal societal life during incarceration, which in turn facilitates smoother adjustment to post-release life. For inmates’ families, participation in this program requires the support of family members, which can help improve familial relationships. Inmates are also able to increase their labor compensation income, thereby reducing the financial burden on their families. For participating companies, employing inmates for external work helps alleviate labor shortages, resulting in a win-win-win outcome for all parties involved.
